The Best World Cup Mobile Apps

So, the 2010 FIFA World Cup is upon us and excitement is through the roof. In order to fully immerse yourself in the football spirit you need to be armed with all the best football related apps. Here are all the best apps to save you wasting precious ‘armchair viewing’ time on the bad ones.

iPhone apps

Telegraph World Cup (Free)

If you want to stay up to date with fixtures, scores and results then look no further than the very swanky Telegraph World Cup app. It provides in-depth information of players, matches and can be relied on to keep you right up to date right throughout the tournament.

The Official England app (£2.99)

Official England app - Steven Gerrard
If you are 100% focused on only the England team during the tournament, then this one is for you. The Official England app brings you the latest England news, stats and fixtures. It also features videos from the England camp and clips of England’s most memorable World Cup moments.

My South Africa Essentials (Free)

My South Africa app
Lucky enough to be going to South Africa for the World Cup? The ‘My South Africa Essentials’ app is a must have! Not only does it give you the latest information from the tournament, but it also includes travel guide information to help maximise enjoyment on your trip. Handy!

Fifa World Cup 2010 (£3.99)

FIFA World Cup iPhone app
Regular players of the EA franchise may already have this one. Probably the best football game on the iPhone, though can be highly addictive. You have been warned!

World Cup History

World Cup History iPhone app
Do you have one of those friends that loves to show off how much random football trivia they know? Here’s your chance to get one over them; The World Cup History app is packed full of facts, figures and stats to equip you with all you need to get one over on them... or just to learn some interesting facts. Either way it’s well worth downloading.

Android apps

World Cup Quiz by Lniv

World Cup Quiz Android app
Everybody loves a quiz don’t they? This one is sure to keep you and your friends entertained. Although it’s not the prettiest of apps, it has over 1000 questions, which is probably enough to keep you entertained in-between games!

2010 World Cup

One of the best world cup data apps that you’ll need to take through the tournament. It is stacked with stats, results, real time scores, team info and up-to-date news from the tournament. It even has a handy countdown to start of the tournament. An absolute must have for any football nut!

The Sun’s World Cup app (£2.39)

The Sun World Cup Android app
The Sun have released their own app to bring you all of their coverage from the World Cup. The app includes photos, videos, polls and even their World Cup Fantasy Football game. If you’re an avid Sun reader this one’s for you.

World Cup Essentials (Free)

World Cup Essentials Android app
A direct competitor of the ‘2010 World Cup’ app mentioned earlier, this one is just as good. It has all of the same inclusions in it, however all of the fixtures are packaged in a neat little calendar. I'd say it's a flip of a coin to decide between these two apps.

Nokia apps

FIFA World Cup 2010 (£4.00)
As with the iPhone version, you know what you're getting. Created by the kings of football sim games this one brings you brilliant gameplay with all the licensed details.

AP 2010 World Cup Coverage (Free)

AP 2010 World Cup Coverage
This is Nokia's answer to the previously mentioned data driven World Cup apps. It provides all up-to-date information on the latest, scores results and standings. It also provides rich content on venues and players, with photos and videos.

Windows Mobile apps

FIFA World Cup 2010 (£6.69)

FIFA World Cup 2010 Windows Mobile app
Just to add to their selection of their devices you can play EA's FIFA football simulation from, it is also available on Windows Mobiles (although the most expensive of the mobile versions).

World Cup 2010 Schedule (£0.69)

World Cup 2010 Schedule app
As the name suggests, this is gives you a schedule of all the World Cup games throughout the tournament. A handy feature is the 'export to Outlook' feature which allows you to add any fixture to your own calendar to set reminders for yourself. Simple and handy.

So there you go. Whatever smartphone you have, if you want to get into the World Cup spirit, there is... as they say "an app for that".
